Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore - When Our Sidecars Entered Hollywood

Every vehicle has a story. When a vehicle becomes attached to people and their lives, it becomes more than just a “functional” or “practical” product. It stays with them for a long time.

Some spend their lives cruising through city streets, carrying families on weekend rides or becoming the centerpiece of weddings and special events. Others travel much farther than anyone could have imagined.

Years ago, one of Scooter99's handcrafted Vespa sidecars made an unexpected journey from our workshop in Jakarta to the set of a Hollywood film.

It wasn't built for the movies.

It was simply built the way we have always built every sidecar: by hand, with patience, precision, and the belief that good craftsmanship can bring premium quality tailor made for our client’s custom needs.

It All Started With a Customer

Like many of our projects, the story began with an international client looking for something unique.

The Vespa and sidecar combination was carefully assembled in our Jakarta workshop before being shipped overseas. At the time, its destination was simply another satisfied customer. There was no expectation that it would one day appear on the silver screen.

That is one of the fascinating things about custom-built vehicles.

Once they leave the workshop, they begin writing stories of their own.

An Unexpected Opportunity

After arriving in the United States, the Vespa sidecar quickly attracted attention.

Its classic silhouette, handcrafted details, and timeless character made it stand out from ordinary vehicles. Before long, it found its way into the entertainment industry and was selected to appear in the Hollywood family film Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore.

For a workshop located in Jakarta, Indonesia, this was a surreal moment.

Our work had quietly become part of an international film production—not because it was designed specifically for Hollywood, but because authentic craftsmanship speaks for itself wherever it goes.

More Than Just a Movie Prop

Film productions pay close attention to every detail.

Every vehicle helps establish the atmosphere of a scene and contributes to the visual storytelling. Classic Vespas have long carried a sense of nostalgia, elegance, and personality, and the addition of a handcrafted sidecar creates an even stronger visual presence.

Seeing one of our sidecars featured in an international production reminded us that great design is universal.

It doesn't matter whether it's parked outside a café in Jakarta, displayed at a wedding, used in a commercial shoot, or featured on a movie set halfway around the world.

A beautifully built vehicle naturally becomes part of the story.

A Proud Moment for Indonesian Craftsmanship

At Scooter99, we've always believed that handmade products from Indonesia deserve a place on the global stage.

Every sidecar that leaves our workshop represents hundreds of hours of fabrication, fitting, finishing, and quality control. Each one is built not only to look beautiful but also to be functional, durable, and ready for real-world use.

The appearance of one of our sidecars in a Hollywood production was more than an exciting milestone for Scooter99.

It was a reminder that Indonesian craftsmanship can stand confidently alongside work from anywhere in the world.

Every Sidecar Has Its Own Journey

Over the years, Scooter99 sidecars have traveled across continents.

Some have become cherished collector's items. Others are used for weddings, business promotions, tourism, or unforgettable road trips. Some have even become part of major events and film productions.

Although every destination is different, they all begin in exactly the same place:

Our workshop in Jakarta, where every sidecar is built by hand with the same passion and attention to detail that has defined Scooter99 since 1999.

We never know where the next sidecar will end up.

Perhaps it will explore mountain roads.

Perhaps it will become the centerpiece of someone's dream project.

Or perhaps, just like this one, it will quietly make its way onto the big screen.

And that possibility is what makes every build so special.
